Steve Azar performs at “An Evening of Delta Soul” concert at the Bologna Center on Thursday, April 12. Azar was the final performance of the 2012-2013 Season. The Bologna Center will announce its 19th Season in early summer.

On Thursday, April 11, the Bologna Performing Arts Center held the final performance of its 2012-2013 Main Stage Season.  Mississippi Delta native, Nashville star, and Ride Records recording artist Steve Azar headlined the show “An Evening of Delta Soul.”  Azar and his two-piece band played a collection of songs that took the audience on a musical journey through Azar’s life growing up in the Mississippi Delta.  Azar provided his fans with an intimate, acoustic performance full of stories behind his life and his music.  Concert goers were impressed with Azar and his band’s talented performance.

The DMI All-Stars opened the performance Thursday evening to rave audience reviews.  The group was hand selected to represent Mississippi during GRAMMY week in Los Angeles in February 2013.  The DMI All- Stars are based out of the Delta Music Institute and are comprised of Delta State University staff and students.  Later in the evening, the DMI All-Stars and the Delta State Fighting Okra mascot surprised Azar onstage with a cake while the audience sang “Happy Birthday.”

Prior to the concert, the Bologna Performing Arts Center held a reception honoring its annual members for the current season.  Annual members are the loyal donors who help support the performances each season.  The reception featured refreshments and food from the Bologna Center’s restaurant partners from the 2012-2013 Season.

The Bologna Center staff is currently finalizing plans for the 2013-2014 Main Stage and School Matinee Seasons.  While the show titles are still a secret, executive director Laura Howell promises that the season is going great.  “Our staff and programming committee have worked hard to bring the top national productions to the Delta next season.  We listened to what our audience said they wanted, and we are pleased with the array of performances that are going to be a part of our 2013-2014 Season” said Howell.

The 19th Season will be announced in early summer.  Call (662) 846-4625 or visit the website for more information.
