The 2013-2014 Season: Find your Spark!
On Monday, June 3, the Bologna Performing Arts Center announced its 2013-2014 Season of Main Stage and School-Time Matinee performances. After a successful 2012-2013 Season, the BPAC is excited for this coming year’s performances. “We received a tremendous response from our audiences during the past year,” said Laura Howell, Executive Director of the BPAC. “This season, we are expanding from 8 to 9 main stage performances, with more family-friendly and musical options. The BPAC Programming Committee worked very hard to bring the best national and international touring productions to the Delta for our 19th season.”
During the summer months, the BPAC will present a Summer Movie Series on the following Tuesday evenings: June 18, June 25, and July 9. All movies will start at 7:00pm on the big screen in the Delta and Pine Land Theater, movie-style concessions will be available, and tickets are just $5 each. Due to licensing regulations, the BPAC cannot publish the movie titles; however, the film listings are available on Facebook www.facebook.com/BolognaPAC, on the BPAC website www.bolognapac.com, or by phone at (662) 846-4625.
The BPAC will kick off their 19th Season in September with Jim Witter’s The Piano Men. Due to popular demand, with patrons begging for more, the BPAC is bringing Witter and his band back to the Delta for a musical journey featuring music by Elton John and Billy Joel. Planters Bank and Trust is sponsoring this concert which will delight fans of the two famous piano men of the 1970s.
In October, the symphony meets the big screen! Following Jim Witter will be a performance by the North Mississippi Symphony Orchestra. The concert will feature music from scores written by legendary film composer John Williams and video clips from the accompanying films in “A Night at the Movies.” Film and music enthusiasts will recognize the familiar themes from Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark¸ Star Wars, and other well-known films.
The exciting MEMPHIS THE MUSICAL will come to the Delta in November. Audiences will join along on their incredible journey to the ends of the airwaves—filled with laughter, soaring emotion, and roof-raising rock ‘n’ roll. MEMPHIS is the winner of four 2010 Tony Awards® including Best Musical! Bolivar Medical Center is sponsoring this incredible Broadway production.
In December, the third annual A Mississippi Delta Holiday comes to the BPAC. This production features festive seasonal favorites from talented artists and groups from across the Delta region, including the Buford Family of Glendora. Bring sparkle to the season, rekindle fond memories, and top off the afternoon with a hot cocoa and cookie reception.
Kicking off the New Year in January 2014 will be Popovich Comedy Pet Theatre. It is a family-oriented blend of the unique comedy and juggling skills of Gregory Popovich and the extraordinary talents of his performing pets, all of which are rescue animals!
In February, the BPAC will be filled with the incredible sounds of the American Spiritual Ensemble. The American Spiritual Ensemble is a critically-acclaimed professional group, unique in that over 90% of the members are accomplished soloists in their own right, creating a sound that cannot be duplicated.
At the end of February, the Women of Ireland come to the BPAC. Featuring live Irish and Celtic music, a troupe of world champion dancers and sensational vocal performances, the show demonstrates the wealth of talent that exists within Ireland’s traditions of music, song, and dance.
Direct from Australia, The Ten Tenors will present a wonderful collection of Broadway’s greatest hits in their performance “On Broadway” in March. The Ten Tenors’ unique approach to rock-opera has powered their rise to the top; bringing rock and classical music together in a unique way that shows off the ten multi-talented vocalists.
Wrapping up the 2013-2014 Season in April will be Broadway production of The Addams Family, a smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley, and, of course, Lurch to life. THE ADDAMS FAMILY is kooky fun for the whole family!
