The 2019-2020 School-Time Matinee Series performance tickets are now on sale for school administrators, teachers, and students in schools around the Delta. This year’s matinee series features six shows with three in the fall semester and three in the spring semester. Tickets sell quickly due to the large size of school groups, so contact the BPAC Arts Education Office early to make your reservation. The first School-Time Matinee Series performance is DinoLight, produced by Lightwire Theater, recommended for 5K-5th grades and scheduled for Tuesday, September 24 at 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The BPAC will resume its Read It, See It, Hear It, Be It program in conjunction with the matinee series after positive response from teachers and students last year. The program is a literacy initiative launched by the BPAC in 2018 that provides reduced-priced copies of children’s books to students who attend the matinee performances. The BPAC aims to distribute 3,000 reduced-priced books to preK-6th grade readers this season. These books are the inspiration for four of the performances on this year’s School-Time Matinee Series programming slate.

Partners in the initiative include the Delta Arts Alliance and Grammy Museum Mississippi, who will provide free arts integration workshops for students attending the following performances: Miss Nelson Has a Field Day, on Thursday, October 24, 2019; Walk On: The Story of Rosa Parks on Tuesday, January 21, 2020; The Snowy Day and Other Stories on Thursday, February 13, 2020; and Pete the Cat on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Books are only $1 each and workshops are free to schools attending the performance, but space is limited.

The BPAC has also partnered with several sponsors and granting organizations to offer reduced-priced tickets to public schools in Delta counties. While normal ticket prices are $6 each, scholarship tickets programs sponsored by Double Quick, Inc., the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, and the Community Foundation of Washington County will allow students to purchase performance tickets for only $1 each.
